Pop singers Sabrina Carpenter and Justin Bieber heated up Coachella with their contrasting performances.

The world’s largest music festival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella), took place in Indio, California, from April 10 to 12.

Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G were named this year’s Coachella headliners, and Carpenter and Bieber’s performances particularly garnered attention for their distinct charms.

On Coachella’s opening day, April 10, Sabrina Carpenter earned praise from international media for her theatrical staging and intricate performance layout.

Her retro-themed production, which combined vintage cars and fountain shows, left a strong impression. She drove among the audience, shortening the distance with fans and enhancing the live experience.

Carpenter enhanced her visual appeal with five costume changes, all showcasing luxury brand Dior.

Carpenter performed a total of 20 songs, including hits like ‘Espresso,’ ‘Manchild,’ ‘Please Please Please,’ ‘Sugar Talking,’ ‘Juno,’ and ‘Tears.’

In contrast, Justin Bieber, who headlined on the third day, April 12, emphasized ‘simplicity.’

Clad in a hoodie and black shorts, Bieber’s set focused purely on music, without elaborate stage effects or dancers. His unique approach included taking live song requests from the audience via a MacBook on stage.

During his worldwide hit ‘Baby,’ past music videos streamed on large screens, offering a nostalgic mix of his current vocals and youthful voice.

Bieber’s 34-track set featured hits like ‘Go BABY,’ ‘STAY,’ ‘Favorite Girl,’ ‘Beauty and a Beat,’ ‘Sorry,’ and ‘YUKON.’

However, some critics found Bieber’s performance lacking in enthusiasm compared to Carpenter’s elaborate show, with comments suggesting it resembled a karaoke session. This critique might reflect the high expectations associated with Bieber’s reported fee of approximately $148 million, a record for Coachella.

Meanwhile, Coachella will continue with its second week of performances from April 17 to 19.
