‘Grand Princess of the 21st Century’ recorded its highest ratings to date, reaching double-digit ratings in just its fourth episode.
MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama ‘Grand Princess of the 21st Century’ is set in a constitutional monarchy in 21st-century Korea. It tells the story of a woman who is frustrated with her ‘commoner’ status despite having everything, and a son of the king who is sad because he cannot have anything. The drama stars IU, Byeon Woo-seok, Noh Sang-hyun, and Gong Seung-yeon.
Viewers have found the show divisive due to errors in its world-building and the acting skills of the lead actors. Despite high expectations for the project starring global top stars IU and Byeon Woo-seok, some feedback suggests it has fallen short.
However, the widely discussed ‘Grand Princess of the 21st Century’ started with a 7.8% rating (nationwide household standard by Nielsen Korea) and surpassed 10% in just four episodes, reaching an 11.1% rating.
By contrast, the SBS drama ‘Goddess and Legal Office’, starring Yoo Yeon-seok, saw its ratings decline from a high of 10% to the 6% range after ‘Grand Princess of the 21st Century’ premiered. Both dramas air in the same time slot at 9:50 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
JTBC’s ‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness,’ which premiered on the 18th, got off to a disappointing start with a 2.2% rating. This was 2.8 percentage points lower than its predecessor, ‘Efficient Meeting of Singles,’ which concluded with a 5% rating.
‘Grand Princess of the 21st Century’ maintains strong popularity and ratings among its competitors. Despite divided viewer reactions, IU and Byeon Woo-seok appear to have no match.
