TVING’s original series ‘Yumi’s Cells Season 3’ premiered its first two episodes on the 13th to a warm reception.
The series marked the anticipated return of a relatable romance. Director Lee Sang-yeop’s meticulous direction, coupled with writers Song Jae-jung and Kim Kyung-ran’s insightful psychological portrayals and compelling performances by Kim Go-eun and Kim Jae-won, generated strong synergy. The bustling antics of Yumi’s cells, humorously reflecting her emotions, contributed to a comedic and relatable experience, earning high praise from viewers and placing first among TVING’s new paid subscribers.
Yumi (Kim Go-eun) had been leading a tranquil life after achieving success as a writer. With her focus solely on work, emotion-related cells like love and hate had become dormant, falling asleep in frozen capsules. However, her peaceful life was disrupted by new producer Sun-rok (Kim Jae-won), who frequently provoked her anger. Even as Yumi attempted to diffuse the awkward atmosphere on the bus, Sun-rok’s curt responses and eventual use of headphones shut down communication. Yumi struggled to maintain the conversation, resisting the temptation of her own headphones and feeling bewildered by Sun-rok’s lack of decorum.
The provocations didn’t stop there. Sun-rok’s calm and rational “fact-bombs” further fueled Yumi’s anger. The scene where “Bbakdom,” a rare fish appearing only when Yumi is enraged, repeatedly surfaced and filled the Fishing Cell’s boat, amused viewers. Yumi, misinterpreting her energetic behavior as excitement, displayed a spirited side. Her decision to buy up all the fish-shaped buns as revenge on Sun-rok stirred anticipation for future developments.
Season 3, meanwhile, showcased a more mature Yumi over time. She was kind enough to praise Na-hee (Jo Hye-jung), a supporting writer whose skills hadn’t improved, to lift her spirits. However, with Sun-rok, her pride interfered. She wanted to express gratitude for his insightful feedback on her writing, but her Pride Cell held her back. When Sun-rok helped her in an unexpected parking situation, and his indescribable expression upon learning of her six months of driving experience seemed to mock her, Yumi’s anger resurfaced.

Yumi contemplated asking Editor-in-Chief Dae-yong (Jeon Seok-ho) to replace Sun-rok but found no valid reason. She held back as there was no valid justification for the replacement. A sudden trip to Busan, however, worried her about the awkwardness with Sun-rok when PD Jang (Park Se-in) couldn’t make it. Sun-rok’s choice to sit apart from Yumi, claiming there was no space beside her, left her bewildered once more. She was shocked when she learned from Dae-yong that Sun-rok had requested a change of writer. She believed Sun-rok’s complaints about his schedule were excuses to avoid working with her.
Eventually, Yumi’s deeply buried Real Feelings Cell broke through its frozen barrier. “‘Let’s talk, PD Shin. Don’t you like working with me? What is it? Could you be specific? I need to hear it,’ she said angrily, while Sun-rok stood speechless, leaving viewers eager for their cheerful romance to unfold.
Episodes 3 and 4 of TVING’s original series ‘Yumi’s Cells Season 3’ will be exclusively pre-released on TVING at 6 PM on the 20th. The episodes will also air on tvN every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 PM.
