On ‘You Quiz,’ Anne Hathaway shared casting anecdotes about ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
In the April 15 episode of tvN’s variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block,’ Hollywood actors Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway appeared, marking their return after 20 years, to discuss ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and the prospect of a sequel.
During the show, Yoo Jae-suk expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s an honor and a pleasure to have you both. I can’t believe ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was 20 years ago.”
Meryl Streep responded, “It makes me feel old. Since it was a much-loved movie, I wanted to make a sequel for a long time but had to wait for the right moment.”
She added, “Reuniting with old friends was a wonderful experience. The characters have grown deeper, and returning after 20 years is extraordinary.”
Anne Hathaway shared, “I was 22 back then, but now I’m 42. My attitude towards life has changed. I got the chance to revisit the past with what I know now. The production team was the same as 20 years ago, and it felt like a dream.”
Yoo Jae-suk mentioned ‘The Bridges of Madison County,’ a memorable film associated with Meryl Streep, saying, “I cried a lot. Just thinking about its iconic scenes is heartbreaking.”
Meryl Streep responded, “The production company was initially reluctant to cast me, considering I was 45 years old at the time.”
She continued, “But Clint Eastwood (the director and male lead) insisted on casting me, as I was his mother’s favorite actress,” she said, laughing.
Meryl Streep added, “Eastwood taught me that true strength doesn’t come from shouting or showing off. His power came from restraint, and I used that feeling when portraying Miranda.”
Anne Hathaway revealed the casting story for ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
“Even though ‘The Princess Diaries’ was a hit, it wasn’t enough to boost my casting rank. I was the ninth candidate for the role of Andy,” she said, surprising everyone.
“There were many great actors of my age. I was desperate. I kept praying whenever someone turned the role down. Finally, after a few months, the opportunity came to me. Being the ninth choice and having this happen felt magical,” she laughed.
